Construction companies in Singapore are usually asked for three things: bizSAFE Level 3 (or Star), ISO 9001 and ISO 45001. Main contractors, BCA-registered work and government tenders almost always require them before you can bid. Below is what each one is for, what it costs, and how ZES gets a construction firm certified in 2 to 4 months.

What construction firms usually need

  • bizSAFE Level 3, the baseline safety badge for tenders and main-contractor work.
  • ISO 45001, the international safety management standard (and the basis of bizSAFE Star).
  • ISO 9001, quality management, often required for BCA and larger tenders.
  • ISO 14001, environmental management, increasingly asked for in green and public-sector tenders.

Why construction gets asked for these

Construction is high-risk and tender-driven. The Workplace Safety and Health framework pushes safety certification down the chain: main contractors require their subcontractors to hold bizSAFE Level 3 or higher, and many public and private tenders score or gate on ISO 9001 and ISO 45001. Without them you are often filtered out before price is even considered.

Which standard, in what order

Cost and timeline

bizSAFE Level 3 runs about $2,400 to $5,300 all-in. Each ISO standard is typically $4,500 to $9,000 in the first year (ZES consultancy from $2,288 plus the certification body audit). FAQ

What certification do I need to be a subcontractor in Singapore?

Almost always bizSAFE Level 3 at minimum. Many main contractors also ask for ISO 9001 and ISO 45001. Tell us who you are working under and we will confirm exactly what they require.

Is bizSAFE or ISO 45001 better for a construction firm?

Start with bizSAFE Level 3, it is faster and covers most tender requirements. Move to ISO 45001 (or bizSAFE Star, which is audited against it) when larger clients or main-contractor status require a full safety management system.

How long will certification take?

Most construction SMEs are certified in 2 to 4 months with us. bizSAFE Level 3 alone is often 2 to 4 weeks.

Can I get all the certs in one project?
