We start with the work that must sit inside the certificate scope. Your team shows us the activities, hazards, sites and existing safety records. We then close the gaps, put the agreed system and records into normal work, complete the internal audit and management review, and prepare for the certification body's Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits.

- 04Internal audit and management review

The certification body is independent from ZES. At Stage 1 it reviews whether the safety management system is ready. At Stage 2 it samples records, walks the workplace and speaks with staff. Before those audits, we check that the system reflects the safety work your people actually do.

Who audits and issues the ISO 45001 certificate?
An independent accredited certification body, not ZES, audits the safety management system and issues the certificate. At Stage 1 it reviews the system; at Stage 2 it samples evidence, visits the workplace and speaks with staff. ZES prepares the documents, internal audit, management review and team briefing. The certification body makes the certification decision.
What happens if the auditor raises findings?
Your team addresses the findings and provides the evidence the certification body requests before certification can be issued. We help you work through the points and prepare the evidence. The certification body decides when its requirements are met, so we do not promise an audit outcome.
We already have bizSAFE Level 3. Is ISO 45001 a big step up?
It is a wider management system. Level 3 focuses on your Risk Management implementation and audit. ISO 45001 also covers leadership, worker participation, legal requirements, objectives, performance review and continual improvement. Your Level 3 risk assessments and controls are useful starting evidence, and we build the wider system around them.
Can ISO 45001 help us get bizSAFE Star?
Yes. An SAC-accredited or MRA-recognised ISO 45001:2018 certificate, together with a Risk Management Audit Report, is required for bizSAFE Star. We can plan the ISO 45001 work alongside the bizSAFE Star route so your tender and safety requirements are clear from the start.
